Creative brand positioning

Welcome to Raan, the pioneering Punjabi smokehouse and bar, brought to life by Iqbal Wahhab, the visionary behind The Cinnamon Club and Roast, two of London’s highly successful restaurants.

Your journey begins with a majestic dish - the spiced, marinated, roasted leg of lamb, called Raan. To our vegan friends, Raan has an equally brilliant version for you.

Raan isn’t just another Indian restaurant; it’s Britain’s first sustainable Indian dining experience. Sustainability is not an afterthought; it’s at the core of Raan’s purpose.

They source local ingredients, craft cocktails from unused food, and serve wines on tap, all whilst reducing their carbon footprint. Iqbal is a leader in the Sustainable Restaurants Association, and is leading the change towards a new post-pandemic path for hospitality.

Raan is deeply committed to addressing the issues of child hunger in East London. In a region where more than half of the children lack regular access to nutritious meals, Raan goes beyond the confines of its restaurant walls to provide meals to those in need.

Raan’s chefs volunteer their time to prepare nourishing meals from discarded food items, ensuring that no resource goes to waste. The front of house team also plays an essential role by delivering freshly prepared meals to the Felix Project in Poplar.

At Raan, it’s more than just a dining destination; it’s a circular economy, serving fantastic cuisine in a beautifully designed space. The commitment extends to creating a socially inclusive workforce and diversifying the supply chain.

Inspired by various legendary restaurants in New Delhi, the menu includes a mix of kebabs, breads, salads, and more. With an average spend that will appeal to the masses, Raan aims to become an inclusive culinary hotspot.

The drinks are as unique as the food, with a focus on sustainability. The Natural Bar Company crafts barrelled cocktails from discarded fruits and veggies, whilst Sustainable Wine Solutions offers zero-waste wines, carefully paired with each dish, making Raan the first to have wines custom-made for every meal.

The commitment to sustainability goes beyond the glass and plate; vegetables and herbs are sourced from inner London hydroponic farm. Additionally, women in council estates in Tower Hamlets grow vegetables for the restaurant with polytunnels on a regenerative agriculture ethic, which traps carbon in the soil.

Raan understands that the success of the restaurant is linked to the well-being of the neighbourhoods it serves. The restaurant is dedicated to creating a strong bond with the local community in East London.

Raan offers a space for both work and dining - open to everyone from residents and local professionals. Visit Raan for work, meetings and meals, from breakfast to dinner. Raan is more than just a restaurant - it’s a gathering place to meet and connect.

Shoreditch’s diverse landscape has seen the emergence of a new community of hipsters, alongside the longstanding Bangladeshi community. Raan aims to break down barriers that may have formed between these groups. Raan is a space where people of all backgrounds can come together and share experiences.

To further enhance connections, Raan is building an online platform. Guests working or dining in any of the spaces, can log in and connect with others as well as engage with Raan directly. It’s a digital space designed to facilitate dialogue, collaboration, and community building.

In addition to addressing the issues of child hunger, Raan aims to empower women facing economic challenges within London. Raan, alongside a long established body that started off in the Ocean Estate in Stepney, are working together to guide women off Universal Credit and develop careers in hospitality.

Together, they have developed an innovative apprenticeship programme, where women can find their talents within a nurturing catering college. Raan isn’t just shaping chefs, it’s also creating exceptional front-of-house team members.

As we execute our initiatives to drive awareness and footfall to Raan, our approach will focus on upholding the brand’s ethos and positioning.
